Bahamas: its flag

Hoisted on 10 July 1973, the day of independence, the flag grew out of a public competition whose entries were combined, under the guidance of the artist Hervis Bain, into the final design.

The two turquoise bands represent the sea surrounding the archipelago, the golden band the sun and the sand, and the black triangle pointing inward the Bahamian people's determination to make the most of these riches.
