San Marino at a glance: its flag, its capital San Marino, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
The sky blue and white, adopted as early as 1862, stand respectively for the sky and the clouds, or the snow, atop Mount Titano, which overlooks the small republic.
The coat of arms at the centre, made compulsory on the state flag in 2011, shows the three towers of Guaita, Cesta and Montale built on Titano’s three peaks, each topped with an ostrich feather, beneath a crown and the motto “LIBERTAS”.
