Dominica at a glance: its flag, its capital Roseau, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
Designed by playwright Alwin Bully for independence on 3 November 1978, this green flag carries a tricolour cross, yellow for the original inhabitants, black for the fertile soil, white for pure water, and ten lime-green stars for the country's ten parishes.
At its centre, a red disc frames a sisserou, an endangered endemic parrot whose purple plumage makes this one of the very few national flags to feature that colour; its posture was changed in 1988 to face the hoist.
No land border.
