Nepal at a glance: its flag, its capital Kathmandu, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
The only national flag that isn’t rectangular, Nepal’s flag keeps the shape of two stacked pennants already carried by the country’s dynasties in the 19th century; its proportions were only fixed by a precise geometric construction in 1962.
The blue border stands for peace, the crimson red for courage and the national flower; the moon and sun, whose faces disappeared in that 1962 redesign, wish the country to last as long as they do.
