Adopted in 1970 when Sultan Qaboos came to power, this flag combines the white of peace, historically carried by the Imam’s banner, the red of the battles fought against invaders and the green of the Jebel Akhdar, the fertile “Green Mountain” in the north of the country.
The national emblem in the canton is the khanjar, the traditional curved Omani dagger, crossed over two swords: an insignia long carried by the ruling Al Said dynasty.
