Adopted in 1996, as Seychelles moved from single-party rule to multi-party democracy, this flag abandons the previous banner's horizontal stripes for five diagonal rays springing from the bottom-left corner, an image of a country moving towards the future.
Blue stands for the sky and the Indian Ocean, yellow for the sun, red for the people and their work, white for social justice and harmony, and green for the archipelago's land and vegetation.
