Bosnia and Herzegovina at a glance: its flag, its capital Sarajevo, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
The blue and yellow flag, designed by Mladen Kolobarić, was imposed on 4 February 1998 by the UN High Representative Carlos Westendorp, after parliament failed to agree on any of the proposed post-war designs.
The yellow triangle evokes the shape of the country and its three constituent peoples; the white stars along its edge, two of them cut off at the top and bottom, are modelled on those of the European flag and speak to the country's aspiration to join the European Union.
