Indonesia at a glance: its flag, its capital Jakarta, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
The Indonesian flag, a red-and-white bicolour, was adopted at independence in 1945, but it directly echoes the royal banner of the Majapahit Empire, which already dominated the archipelago in the 13th century.
It is nearly identical to Monaco’s flag, aside from its proportions — the Monegasque flag is more elongated, avoiding confusion when flown. Red stands for courage, white for purity.
