Flag — Gabon
Gabon: its flag

Adopted on 9 August 1960, days before independence on 17 August, this horizontal tricolour replaced a flag that still carried the French tricolour in its canton, the only former French autonomous republic to display that symbolic link this way.

Green stands for the country's vast equatorial forests, a major economic resource, yellow for the equator running through Gabon as well as the sun, and blue for the country's long coastline on the Atlantic Ocean.
