Tajikistan: its flag

Adopted on 24 November 1992, after independence in 1991, Tajikistan’s flag stacks three horizontal bands, red, white and green, with the white band in the middle the widest of the three.

Red is said to stand for sovereignty and triumph, white for the country’s cotton and for purity, green for agriculture and links to Islam; at the centre, a crown topped by an arc of seven stars traditionally symbolises the unity of the Tajik people.
