Thailand: its flag

The five red-white-blue-white-red stripes were adopted in 1917 by King Rama VI, replacing the earlier white elephant flag, which was judged too hard to make out from a distance.

Blue, added last, aligned the flag with the colours of the World War I Allies; red stands for the nation, white for religion, blue for the monarchy.
