Myanmar at a glance: its flag, its capital Naypyidaw, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
Adopted on 21 October 2010, alongside a new constitution, Myanmar’s current flag replaced the red flag with a cogwheel and rice sheaf flown since 1974 under the socialist government; it revives the yellow-green-red tricolour already used in 1943.
Yellow stands for solidarity, green for peace and the country’s fertility, red for courage and decisive action; the single white star at the centre symbolises the enduring union of its many peoples.
