Tunisia at a glance: its flag, its capital Tunis, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
Adopted in its current form in 1831, while still under Ottoman sovereignty, Tunisia’s flag is one of the oldest national flags still in use.
Its white disc carries a red crescent and star, symbols widely associated with the Muslim world; the surrounding red is traditionally said to commemorate blood shed in an Ottoman naval battle.
