Djibouti at a glance: its flag, its capital Djibouti, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
This flag reuses, from independence on 27 June 1977 onward, the colours and layout of the banner flown by the Front for the Liberation of the Somali Coast, an independence movement active in the 1960s.
Light blue stands for the Issa people, green for the Afar, the country's two main communities; the white triangle symbolises peace between them, and the five-pointed red star stands for the unity of the Somali people, traditionally divided among five historical territories.
