Ethiopia at a glance: its flag, its capital Addis Ababa, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
The only African country never to have been lastingly colonised, Ethiopia saw its colours — green, yellow and red — taken up across much of the continent at independence: these are the pan-African colours.
The tricolour goes back to the late 19th century; the central emblem, a radiant yellow star on a blue disc, dates from 1996 and stands for the unity of Ethiopia’s peoples and their shared future.
