Rwanda at a glance: its flag, its capital Kigali, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
Adopted on 31 December 2001, Rwanda’s current flag replaced the one flown since independence in 1962, a vertical red-yellow-green tricolour bearing a black letter R, whose colours, close to Guinea’s, remained tied to the 1994 genocide.
Blue stands for peace, yellow for the economic wealth the country seeks, green for the hope of prosperity; the golden 24-ray sun in the canton symbolises national unity and the dispelling of ignorance.
