Togo: its flag

Adopted on 27 April 1960, the day of independence from France, Togo’s flag was designed by the artist Paul Ahyi, who also created the country’s coat of arms.

Its five green and yellow bands stand for hope and agriculture as well as mineral wealth and labour; the red canton with its white star speaks for the blood shed for independence and the purity of the nation’s ideals.
