Mozambique at a glance: its flag, its capital Maputo, its population and where it sits on the world map. Plus a way to test yourself afterwards.
Mozambique’s current flag was adopted on 1 May 1983, based on the banner of FRELIMO, the liberation movement that led the country to independence from Portugal in 1975.
Green stands for the land’s wealth, black for the African continent, yellow for mineral resources; inside the red triangle of the independence struggle, the star carries a hoe, an open book and an assault rifle, the only modern firearm on any national flag.
